With the dialogue used, you could see how you should be treated by others. There was an example of a bully and example of a true friend. This book left a good message; you shouldn't try to be someone you're not, the right people will eventaully appear. While this book was good, it wasn't really unique and it displayed a lot of the same things as many other children's books.
For these reasons, I would Tyrone the Horrible is a children's book by Hans Wilhelm that teaches about overcoming bullies. Jan 20, Patricia McCowan rated it it was ok Shelves: edpicture. A short little story about Boland the dinosaur who has issues with Tyrone, another dinosaur who likes to pick on Boland. The book has cute and colorful illustrations but the book itself is a little outdated. The reading level is easy and can be good for beginner readers.

It is a good story about standing up for yourself but to me, revenge is not the way to go about solving the issue. The illustrations are clear but not as vibrant and eye catching as more recent books. I do not think this is one A short little story about Boland the dinosaur who has issues with Tyrone, another dinosaur who likes to pick on Boland.
I do not think this is one I would purchase for my classroom. Jun 24, Ray rated it liked it Shelves: ar-books. Dec 06, Rory rated it liked it. It brought back sentiments of childhood and at the same time, it taught me some new vocabularies. Feb 13, Lee Ann rated it liked it.
Fun with distinct artwork. Setting: Dinosaur times Narrative: Igor is bullied by bigger and meaner dinosaur Tyranno. He asks other dinosaurs for advice on how to deal with Tyranno and tries different solutions with varying success. Children who already like dinosaurs will love the artwork. The story is simple and clear and takes on an issue that many children probably face at school. I'm not sure the way Igor eventually takes care of his bully is something most American parents would approve of and probably wouldn't work with a real bully.
While it makes for a cute story, it doesn't give practical advice, which is often expected of stories that deal with "real" issues. Personal critique: While I wouldn't give this to a child actually dealing with a bullying problem, most children would enjoy that Igor bests his bully in the end. Illustrations: Color Illustrations Notable awards: None. Lesson Planning: Since I wouldn't use this book when actually addressing bullying, I'm not sure where to tie this book into a curriculum.

Tyrone the Horrible is the first of what will become a series about the "first bully in the world" Tyrone the Horrible and how he would choose to bully Boland. As Boland is being bullied by Tyrone he realizes that he needs to do something that will get him to leave him alone as who wants to be bullied for their entire lives.
Turning to his friends Boland gets a variety of different ideas but what really is the best way for Boland to get Tyrone to leave him alone, or is that even possible. This bo Tyrone the Horrible is the first of what will become a series about the "first bully in the world" Tyrone the Horrible and how he would choose to bully Boland.

This book is a great start to the series as I have read them all out of order, it gives a great little backstory to Boland which I thought was a nice touch as Boland was really a main character besides Tyrone so it is interesting to get more of a story. I do wish Wilhelm gave Tyrone a backstory as well as in real life the way someone acts is typical due to something going on in their life.
I think that it was also nice that the story ended with a picture of dinosaur bones at the end of the story and how it is being looked at by a family. I think this would be a great time to mention to children about how fossils are found and allows for people to get an idea of what an animal that is now extinct may have looked.
Overall the story was very interesting to read and offered an insight to the topic of bullying something that is constantly an issue in schools. This story allows for parents or teachers to speak with the students about bullying and how that affects everyone and what can be done at either the school or at home if the student is being bullied.
The Horrible Crowes
Any story that allows for many discussions that could be beneficial for a child's development is always nice to read. The importance of being able to read a story like this aloud is also really important because of how didactic this story is when reading alone. When a younger child reads this book they may be able to relate but they might also not understand why something is the way that it is.
I think that the illustrations and word choice done by Wilhelm allow for this story to be perfect in a classroom setting. While reading the story the illustrations really help keep the reader interested as well for those that may not fully understand the words would really get a sense of what is going on just by looking at those images.
It is also cool to see how the story i going to end and Wilhelm always makes the endings super interesting and something that you would not typically expect. I think on the topic of bullying and how Boland chooses to handle these issues really allows for an open discussion on how someone being bullied may be able to get help. Tyrone picks on him and beats him up. His friends tried to offer him advice to help the situation but it only made it worse. One day Boland went to offer Tyrone a snack in hopes that he's leave him zone but all Tyrone did was throw the snack back in Boland's face. The next day he walked past Tyrone seeming unbothered by him until Tyrone stepped on his tail just to get his sandwich. Then the friends encouraged Boland to go fight Tyrone, but Boland was the only one left hurt. Until one night he thought of an idea that but Tyrone right in his place.
He'd placed big hot peppers in his sandwich so when Tyrone went for it, his mouth was on fire. From that day on Tyrone stayed far away from Boland. The there are two themes present in this book: friendship and bullying. Throughout the book Boland's friends were there with him. Although their advice always wasn't the best advice they never turned their backs on him.
One thing the author could have done is had his friends actually there with him helping him fight those battles. In this book Tyrone bullies Boland, Boland tries different things to get Tyrone to stop bullying him. In the end he figured out a way to do that without giving up. He did try to fight Tyrone but when he actually stopped to think by himself what he could have done that could have been avoided. Throughout this book my mood switch a bit.
He was being a bully and didn't care who he hurt. Then as the book proceeded I began to get annoyed with his friends because they were given him advice but they weren't actually helping him fight his battle. When Tyrone beat him up I felt sad because it is true that some bullies can't be beat whether it be physically or not physical.
In the end I felt proud of Boland because he came up with an idea that was really good and lead to Tyrone never messing with him again. Very first book in French with a little French vocabs. Dinossaur Igor looks so cute. Wilhelm, Hans. Tryone the Horrible Japanese Version.
